Free with every Solvelle topper. Read it before you choose your shade, and keep it for your first week.
1. What your topper can (and can't) do
Your topper covers thinning at the part and the top of the head in about a minute. It gives a fuller-looking top while you wear it. It doesn't change your own hair. It works best where you still have hair for the clips to hold.
2. Find your shade
- Look by a window in daylight, not under a bathroom bulb.
- Match the middle lengths of your hair, not your roots. The topper covers your roots and blends with the hair around and below it.
- Between two shades? The blended shades (ombre, balayage, highlights) usually blend more easily.
- Partly gray? Choose Silver Gray or a blended shade.
- Still not sure? Email us two daylight photos: your part from above, and your hair from the side. We'll suggest a shade within 24–48 hours.
3. Before your first wear
Take it out of the bag and shake it gently. Comb it with a wide-tooth comb, starting at the ends and working up. If it has creases from the box, mist it lightly with cool water and let it dry on a stand or a tall jar. Brush your own hair smooth where the clips will sit.
4. The 60-second clip-in
- Place the center of the base over your part, a little behind your hairline.
- Open the front clip and press it into your hair, close to the scalp, until it snaps.
- Do the back clip, then the two side clips.
- Check: the clips should feel secure, not tight.
Tip for fine hair: tease a tiny section of your own hair at each clip spot, add a light mist of hairspray, and clip into that "anchor" for a better grip. It gets faster after a few tries.
5. Make it look like yours
- Flip a little of your own hair over the edges of the base.
- Set your part with a comb. A slightly off-center part often hides the edges best.
- Looks shiny? Dust it lightly with dry shampoo and brush through.
- Want shorter bangs or less length? Have a stylist trim it while it's on your head, a little at a time.
6. Keep it kind to your hair
For the first few days, wear it for a few hours, then longer. Move each clip a little each day so the same hairs don't hold the weight every time. Take rest days, and never sleep in it. If a clip feels tight, open it and set it again. If your scalp feels sore, give it a break.
7. Wind, hats and real life
Before you go out, gently tug the front to check the hold. Hats and headbands go over it easily. Take it off before swimming, showering, sleeping or a hard workout.
8. Care and storage
- Wash it when it starts to feel heavy or dull, in cool water with a gentle shampoo. Squeeze, don't rub.
- Pat it with a towel and let it air-dry on a stand. Never brush it wet.
- Store it on a stand or loosely in its bag, away from sun and heat.
- Skip hot tools to keep the fiber smooth.
9. When to refresh
How long a topper lasts depends on how often you wear it and how you care for it. Signs it's time: frizzy ends, tangles at the back, or it won't lie flat after washing. Rotating two toppers gives each one rest days.
10. Your 30-day shade promise
If the shade isn't right or it's not for you, email us within 30 days of delivery with your order number and a daylight photo. We'll send a different shade or refund you. No need to send it back. We reply within 24–48 hours.
A note about your own hair
Hair changes after babies, in midlife, after illness and in stressful years. You're far from alone, and choosing a topper is a good, simple choice. But if your hair is suddenly shedding, thinning in patches, itchy or sore, please see a doctor.
